City of Long Beach Staff and Election Update – February 23, 2022

Good Afternoon All,

Updates on June 7th Election: The filing period end date to run is March 14th

Mayor seat – Vice-Mayor Rex Richardson, Councilwoman Suzie Price, and former elected official Gerrie Schipske are the main candidates running for the Mayoral seat to replace Mayor Garcia who is running for Congress.

1st District – incumbent Mary Zendejas likely to be re-elected, no major candidates to oppose her at the moment.

3rd District – main candidates running are Mark Guillen and Kristina Duggan – again filing period is not closed.

5th District – main candidates running are School Board members Megan Kerr and Ian Patton, LB Reform Coalition founder.

7th District – incumbent Roberto Uranga is likely to be re-elected as no major candidates have filed to oppose him at the moment.

9th District – the main candidates are Joni Ricks-Oddie, Gus Orozco, Raul Nario, and Ginny Gonzales.

City Attorney Race – Dawn McIntosh, currently #2 in the City Attorney’s office is running unopposed at the moment.

Remember a candidate needs 50% + 1 in June or the top two vote-getters go to a November runoff.

The Development Permit Center is proud to announce its new Ombudsperson service to help customers through the permitting process and bring resolution to any concerns or complaints that may arise on individual projects. The Ombudsperson is also available to mediate service issues and facilitate process improvements for customers and staff.

A big blow to the City – John Keisler announced that he is leaving the City in the next six weeks for the private sector. John has been terrific in advocating for development. Best wishes to him and hopefully LB finds someone like John!
